SEO Cost in India (2026): What Monthly Charges Really Buy
SEO cost in India explained: what a ₹15,000 monthly retainer should include, cheaper starting points, how long results take and the red flags.
· 12 min read

SEO cost in India has no fixed rate card: agencies price it by scope, and it is often sold as a monthly retainer. At Axon Creative, SEO starts at ₹15,000 a month, and a technical SEO add-on starts at ₹10,000 if a retainer is too much for now. The figure matters less than the work it pays for each month, so that is what this guide shows.
We are a small web design and development studio in Gurugram, and every price below is a starting price we publish. Final pricing follows the agreed scope. Where we describe Google's position, we quote Google's own documentation as checked in October 2026.
SEO cost in India: the quick answer
SEO is mostly skilled labour. Someone has to find what stops your site from being crawled, understood and chosen, fix it, and then check whether the fix worked. Whether a quote calls them SEO charges, SEO packages or a retainer, the price follows three things: how much work your site needs, how crowded your market is, and how many pages, locations or products are in scope.
Most guides that rank for this search are written by agencies selling their own packages, so we will not repeat their ranges as if they were market data. Here is what we publish instead, so you have a fixed reference point to hold other quotes against.
| Service | Starting price | How it is billed |
|---|---|---|
| SEO | From ₹15,000 a month | Monthly, month-to-month |
| AEO (answer engine optimization) | From ₹20,000 a month | Monthly, month-to-month |
| GEO (generative engine optimization) | From ₹25,000 a month | Monthly, month-to-month |
| Complete Search (SEO + AEO + GEO) | From ₹50,000 a month | Monthly, month-to-month |
| Technical SEO | From ₹10,000 | Add-on, quoted separately |
| Speed optimisation | From ₹7,500 | Add-on, quoted separately |
| Google Business Profile | From ₹5,000 | Add-on, quoted separately |
| Analytics and tracking | From ₹3,000 | Add-on, quoted separately |
Whoever you talk to, ask whether the quoted figure includes GST and get the answer in writing, or you may be comparing a pre-tax number with an all-in one.
What ₹15,000 a month should include
Our SEO plan starts at ₹15,000 a month and lists ten pieces of work. Use it as a checklist against any quote you receive, ours included. Here is what each line should mean in practice:
- Technical SEO audit. A check of the site for broken pages, redirect chains, duplicate URLs and anything that blocks Google.
- Keyword and competitor research. The searches your customers actually type, and who already ranks for them.
- On-page and technical SEO. The audit findings fixed on the site, not just listed in a PDF.
- Metadata, headings and internal links. Titles and descriptions that match the search, a clear heading order, and links that lead people and crawlers to your key pages.
- Schema, sitemap and robots. Structured data where it fits, a clean XML sitemap, and a robots.txt file that does not hide what should be found.
- Crawlability and indexation. Checking which pages Google has actually indexed, and why the others were left out.
- Core Web Vitals and speed. How quickly your pages load, respond to taps and settle on the phones your customers use.
- Local SEO and Google Business Profile. Your listing, categories, hours and service areas, kept accurate and consistent with your website.
- Search Console and Analytics. Set up properly, so you can see searches, clicks and enquiries for yourself.
- Monthly performance reporting. What moved, what was done, and what comes next.
Notice what is not on that list: regular blog writing and link outreach. Both take real hours, so if you need them, they should be scoped and priced on their own rather than squeezed into the same fee. Our terms say the same: anything outside the agreed scope is quoted separately.
What the speed line means in practice
Core Web Vitals measure how quickly a page loads, how fast it responds to a tap and how stable it stays while it renders. Google says its ranking systems use them, and also that good scores do not guarantee your pages will rank at the top. Speed is one part of a good page experience, not a shortcut.
Here is the only measurement of our own that we will quote. In a lab test of our own website on a simulated slow 4G phone, the homepage's first paint went from 5.1 seconds to 1.6 seconds after we added compression, caching and image fixes. That is lab data, not field data from real visitors, but it shows the kind of unglamorous work the speed line covers.
Why ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 SEO packages rarely work
Do the arithmetic. A few thousand rupees a month buys a few hours of a skilled person's time, at most. That is not enough to audit a site, fix what the audit finds, rewrite page titles and check the results, let alone repeat it every month.
A narrow, fixed job at that price is a different thing: setting up analytics tracking is a defined task with an end. A monthly promise to "do SEO" for the same money is not. When a monthly package is priced that low, the missing hours have to come from somewhere, and three patterns are worth recognising:
- Keyword-count packages. A promise to rank "20 keywords" sounds measurable, but the easiest way to hit that target is to choose phrases almost nobody searches for. Ranking first for them brings no calls.
- Bulk links. Hundreds of directory, comment or swapped links. Google's spam policies list buying links, excessive link exchanges and using automated programs to create links as link spam, which can hurt your site rather than help it.
- Reports with no work behind them. A monthly PDF of ranking and traffic charts with no record of changes made to your site. If nothing changed on the site, the report is just a screenshot.
Google's own page on hiring an SEO tells you to avoid anyone who talks about link popularity schemes or submitting your site to thousands of search engines. That page was last updated in June 2026, so the warning is current.
Local, national and ecommerce SEO: how scope changes the price
The same ten deliverables take more or less time depending on what they have to cover.
Local SEO
A clinic, salon, coaching centre or showroom in one city mostly competes in the map results. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, meaning how well known the business is, and that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Creating a Business Profile is free; the work lies in keeping it complete, accurate and matched to your website.
This is usually the most affordable SEO to do well, because the pages are few and your competition is your neighbourhood, not the whole country. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work are part of our monthly SEO plan, and Google Business Profile work on its own is an add-on from ₹5,000.
National SEO
If you sell a service across India, you compete with every firm chasing the same searches. That means more research, more pages that answer specific questions, and more time earning genuine mentions. Expect the scope, and the fee, to grow with the number of topics you want to be found for.
Ecommerce SEO
Online stores bring their own problems: hundreds of product and collection pages, filters that create duplicate URLs, out-of-stock items and product structured data. For ongoing work, the size of your catalogue drives the scope more than anything else. Our Shopify builds include basic SEO setup, and our guide to ecommerce website cost in India covers the build side.
Smaller starting points if a retainer is too much
Not every business needs a monthly plan on day one. Our pricing lists a few search jobs as add-ons with their own starting prices, billed only if you ask for them. If you are really asking about basic SEO cost in India, these are the honest answer, because they deal with the problems that hold many small sites back:
- Technical SEO, from ₹10,000. Work on the problems that stop Google from crawling and indexing your pages properly.
- Google Business Profile, from ₹5,000. Getting your listing complete and consistent with your website.
- Speed optimisation, from ₹7,500. Image, caching and compression work of the kind described above.
- Analytics and tracking, from ₹3,000. So you can see which pages and searches actually bring enquiries.
If you are building a new website, basic SEO is already part of every website build we price, starting with the Essential site from ₹18,000. Our Extreme build, from ₹1,25,000, goes further with technical and on-page SEO plus schema, sitemap, robots and canonicals. Our guide to website design cost in India explains those packages. Getting SEO right while you build usually costs less than fixing it after launch.
How long SEO takes, and why no honest agency guarantees rankings
Google's SEO Starter Guide says some changes take effect in a few hours while others can take several months, and that you will likely want to wait a few weeks before judging whether your work helped. Anyone who promises results by next Friday is guessing.
Expect the first month of any new SEO plan to be mostly diagnosis and repair: the audit, the fixes and clean tracking. After that, judge progress in Search Console, through impressions, clicks and the queries you appear for, and in real enquiries, not in a single ranking screenshot.
On guarantees, our published terms say it plainly: SEO results depend on competition, authority, content and algorithms, so specific rankings are not guaranteed. Google is blunter: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." If someone guarantees you first place, Google's advice is to find someone else.
Where AEO and GEO fit, and when Complete Search makes sense
AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are names for work aimed at visibility in answer boxes and AI-generated answers. If the terms are new to you, start with our explainers on what AEO means and GEO in digital marketing.
Google's guide to its generative AI features, updated in July 2026, addresses these terms directly. Its answer is that, from Google Search's perspective, optimising for generative AI search is still SEO. It also says you do not need llms.txt files or special schema markup to appear in those features. So SEO comes first: a site that cannot be crawled, understood or trusted is unlikely to be quoted anywhere.
AEO and GEO build on that base rather than replace it. AEO, from ₹20,000 a month, adds question-based content, FAQ and featured-snippet work, and answer-oriented landing pages. GEO, from ₹25,000 a month, adds entity and citation-focused content, brand information consistency and brand mention monitoring. Complete Search, from ₹50,000 a month, combines SEO, AEO and GEO with content strategy, local SEO and monthly reports on traffic, keywords, technical health, visibility and conversions.
Complete Search makes sense when organic search is a main source of leads, you compete beyond one city, and someone on your side can review content every month. If that is not you yet, start with SEO from ₹15,000 a month and add the rest later.
Red flags and questions to ask before you sign
Bad SEO deals usually sound fine on the first call. Watch for these before you sign anything:
- Guaranteed #1 rankings. A guarantee means either keywords nobody searches for or a promise that will not be kept.
- Long lock-ins. A twelve-month contract with no exit clause protects the agency, not you. Our SEO plans are listed as month-to-month.
- No Search Console access, or the agency owns it. Search Console shows you how Google sees your site. Your business should be a verified owner of the property, with the agency added as a user. Google's hiring advice even suggests giving an SEO you are still evaluating read access only.
- Secrecy about changes. Google suggests asking an SEO whether they will share every change they make to your site. If they will not, walk away.
- Unsolicited offers. Google advises caution with SEO firms that email you out of the blue.
Questions worth asking, the first three adapted from Google's own advice on hiring an SEO:
- What results do you expect, and in what timeframe?
- How will you measure success, and will I see it in my own Search Console and Analytics?
- Will you share every change you make to my site, and explain why?
- Who owns the accounts, the content and the reports if we stop working together?
- What is in scope each month, and what is quoted separately?
- Does this figure include GST?
If you have a quote in hand, compare it line by line against our published pricing. If you would like a written scope for your own site before you commit to anything, get in touch. Our starting prices are a floor; the quotation is the fee, written before we start.
Questions people ask
How much does SEO cost in India?
SEO in India has no fixed rate; it is often sold as a monthly retainer priced by scope, competition and the number of pages or locations involved. At Axon Creative, monthly SEO starts at ₹15,000, Complete Search (SEO, AEO and GEO together) starts at ₹50,000 a month, and a technical SEO add-on starts at ₹10,000. Whoever you hire, check what work the fee covers and whether GST is included.
How much does SEO cost per month?
At Axon Creative, monthly SEO starts at ₹15,000 and runs month-to-month. That covers a technical audit, keyword and competitor research, on-page fixes, schema, sitemap and robots, indexation checks, Core Web Vitals and speed, local SEO and Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics, and a monthly report. Larger sites, national competition or added content work raise the monthly figure, and the quotation sets it before work starts.
How much does local SEO cost?
At Axon Creative, local SEO starts at ₹5,000 for Google Business Profile work as an add-on, and ongoing local SEO is part of our monthly SEO plan from ₹15,000. Creating the profile itself is free, and Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What you pay for is the work of keeping your listing complete, accurate and consistent with your website.
How long does SEO take to show results?
Google's SEO Starter Guide says some changes take effect in a few hours and others can take several months, and that you will likely want to wait a few weeks before judging a change. The first month of an SEO plan is mostly audit and fixes. After that, track impressions, clicks and queries in Search Console, and enquiries in Analytics, rather than relying on one ranking screenshot.
Is SEO worth it for small business?
SEO is worth it when people already search for what you sell, nearby or across India, and your site does not show up for those searches. If you are unsure, start small: a technical SEO add-on from ₹10,000 or Google Business Profile work from ₹5,000 deals with the basics. Move to a monthly plan once your own data shows search demand and enquiries.
What is the minimum price for SEO services in India?
There is no official minimum price for SEO in India, and very cheap monthly packages usually buy only a few hours of work. Our smallest search-related add-ons start at ₹3,000 for analytics and tracking and ₹5,000 for Google Business Profile work; these are defined jobs, not monthly SEO. Technical SEO starts at ₹10,000 and monthly SEO at ₹15,000.
