Video editing charges in India for 2026: per reel, per YouTube video and per month, what pushes a quote up, and what each price actually buys.

Video editing charges in India in 2026 start at a few hundred rupees an hour on marketplace listings and run into tens of thousands of rupees for a product ad or a corporate film. At Axon Creative, our published starting prices are ₹2,500 for a basic reel, ₹5,000 for a YouTube video, ₹8,000 for a premium reel and ₹20,000 for a product commercial. What moves a quote inside that range is scope: length, footage, motion graphics, colour, sound and revision rounds.

This guide gives you a real rate card, explains what each line buys, and shows how to brief an edit so you pay for the work and not for rework. If you are an editor pricing your own work, the same breakdown applies from the other side of the table.

Video editing charges in India: a 2026 rate card

Here are our published starting prices, split by the two ways we edit. Standard work is cut in CapCut Pro and Filmora for everyday social content. Premium work uses Premiere Pro and After Effects, with Photoshop, Illustrator and Audition, for ads, motion graphics and films.

Volume10-reel package from ₹20,000; monthly editing from ₹25,000Monthly premium from ₹50,000

Every figure is a starting price. The final fee follows the approved scope, and anything outside that scope is quoted separately. On starting prices, the 10-reel package works out to ₹2,000 a reel against ₹2,500 for a Basic Reel ordered on its own, so a package usually makes sense once you post every week.

For a market comparison, we checked IndiaMART's digital video editing category on 14 October 2026. Sellers there list by the hour or by the minute, not by the reel: hourly listings ran from ₹301 to ₹5,000, and per-minute listings from ₹499 to ₹35,000. Treat those as advertised starting points, not quotes, because the units differ and the scope behind each listing is rarely spelled out.

Why one reel costs ₹2,500 and another ₹10,000

Two reels can both run 30 seconds and still be very different jobs. The price tracks the hours an edit takes and the skills it needs. These are the factors that move it most.

  • Length and footage. A 30-second reel cut from two minutes of clean talking-head footage is quick. The same reel cut from an hour of event footage means watching, logging and choosing before the first cut. Ask whether an editor counts finished runtime or raw footage.
  • Motion graphics. Text, captions and simple zooms are part of a standard edit. Custom animation, kinetic type, animated logos and infographics are built in After Effects, which is why our Motion Graphics Reel starts at ₹10,000 against ₹2,500 for a Basic Reel.
  • Colour. Basic correction fixes exposure and white balance. Grading with LUTs, so a whole campaign shares one look, takes longer and a trained eye.
  • Sound. Music sync and level balancing are standard. Audio cleanup and sound design are separate skills, done in a tool like Audition.
  • Revisions. Our Standard edits include 1 to 2 revision rounds. Every extra round is more hours, so a vague brief often ends up as the most expensive line in a quote.
  • Turnaround. Overnight delivery means an editor moves other work to fit yours, and that is usually charged. If your calendar allows, plan edits a week ahead.
  • Tools. CapCut and Filmora are fast for trend-led social edits. Premiere Pro and After Effects handle multi-cam, tracking, compositing and custom motion. As of October 2026, Adobe's India site lists After Effects and Premiere as separate single-app plans, each at ₹733.96 a month including GST on an annual plan billed monthly (Premiere has a lower first-year offer), so a premium editor's software is part of the rate.

None of this means a cheap reel is a bad reel. A well-shot talking-head clip with clean captions does not need After Effects. The real mistake is paying premium rates for a standard job, or expecting premium work at a standard price.

Per reel, per minute or per month: which pricing model fits

How an editor charges matters as much as the number. Each model suits a different content plan.

  • Per reel or per video. Best when you post occasionally or are trying out a new editor. You know the cost of each piece before work starts, and both our tiers start with per-video prices.
  • Per minute. Common on marketplaces and for longer content such as webinars and corporate films. Check whether the minute means finished runtime or raw footage, because the two produce very different bills.
  • Per hour. Fair for open-ended work like cleaning up an archive, but hard to budget. Ask for a cap in writing.
  • Monthly package. Best when you publish on a fixed calendar. You keep the same editor, a consistent style and a lower cost per piece. Our monthly editing starts at ₹25,000, and monthly premium at ₹50,000.

YouTube sits between reels and films. Our YouTube video edit starts at ₹5,000 at the Standard level and ₹10,000 at Premium, and longer runtimes or heavy B-roll move the quote up.

A simple rule: if you post fewer than four videos a month, pay per video. At four or more, price a package or a monthly plan, and agree in writing how many videos it covers, at what lengths and with how many revision rounds.

Freelancer, marketplace or studio: what changes besides the price

Price is the obvious difference. The less obvious ones decide whether you are still happy three months in.

Solo freelancer

Often the lowest price, with a direct line to the person editing. The risks are availability and continuity: if your editor falls ill or takes on a bigger client, your posting calendar stops. Agree upfront that the project files are handed over to you.

Marketplace seller

Marketplaces make it easy to compare listings, as the IndiaMART range above shows. But a listing is not a scope. Before you pay, ask for a sample in your format, the number of revision rounds, and whether the price is per finished minute or per hour.

Studio

Higher starting prices, because you are paying for a process: a written quote, a defined scope and access to motion and grading tools. Our own process runs in four steps: listen, quote, make, hand over. Starting prices are a floor, and the quotation is the fee, written before we start.

One more difference shows up on the invoice. Under Section 22 of the CGST Act, a supplier generally has to register for GST once aggregate turnover in a financial year exceeds ₹20 lakh, or ₹10 lakh in the special category states. A small freelancer below that line may not be registered, while a registered studio or agency adds GST to the bill. Whoever you hire, ask whether the quote includes GST before you compare numbers.

See the difference: our Standard and Premium sample edits

Prices make more sense when you can see what they buy. Both of our video pricing pages play a short sample edit, with a Sound on button, so you can compare them directly.

The Standard sample is a short showreel for a sample design studio. It moves through title cards, website screens and phone mockups with clean cuts, simple transitions, on-screen text and a music track. Those are the Standard inclusions at work: cuts, transitions, text, motion and brand elements.

The Premium sample is built almost entirely from motion graphics: kinetic type, an animated dashboard of numbers, geometric line work and shifts between black, cream and blue, all cut to sound. That is the kind of custom motion work behind our Motion Graphics Reel and product commercial tiers.

Watch both with sound on. The gap between them is not polish for its own sake. It is hours of design and animation, and that is what separates a ₹2,500 starting price from a ₹10,000 one.

What to send your editor, and what is usually charged separately

Our pricing terms say content, images, video and brand assets come from the client unless creation is included. Sending everything in one go saves a full round of back and forth. Here is what to share:

  • Original footage files through a drive link, rather than clips forwarded in a chat app. Originals keep the most detail for colour and cropping.
  • Your logo, brand colours and fonts.
  • A script, talking points or the order of shots.
  • Two or three reference videos, with a note on what you like about each.
  • The platform and format. Meta's Reels ads page points to vertical 9:16 video with sound, and to keeping key elements inside the safe zone so the app's on-screen controls do not cover them. YouTube treats square or vertical videos up to three minutes as Shorts, and says to use a wider ratio such as 16:9 for long-form.
  • Caption language, the call to action and the deadline.

Then ask what sits outside the edit fee. These are usually not part of an editing price, so check how each one is handled:

  • Shooting, scripting and voice-over. An editing price covers the edit, not the camera or the words.
  • Licensed music and stock footage. YouTube's help page says a Short longer than one minute with an active copyright claim is blocked globally. Music rights in a brand video are a real risk, not a detail.
  • Extra revision rounds. Our Standard edits include 1 to 2 rounds; anything beyond the agreed scope is quoted separately.
  • Extra versions. The same video recut for another platform, length or language.
  • Thumbnails, cover images and rush delivery. Small items, but each one adds hours.

How to brief an edit so revisions, and cost, stay low

Extra cost in video editing usually comes from rework, and rework usually starts with a brief that left things open. A good brief fits on one page.

  1. State the one job of the video: get enquiries, explain a product or announce an offer.
  2. Write the hook you want on screen in the first three seconds.
  3. Mark the shots you must use and the shots to avoid.
  4. Share references with timestamps, for example the transition at 0:12 of a reel you liked.
  5. Lock the script and the music before the edit starts. Changing either after the first cut means re-editing.
  6. Collect feedback from everyone into a single list with timestamps. Two people sending separate notes on the same cut is how one revision round becomes three.
  7. For longer pieces, approve in stages: rough cut first, then colour, sound and graphics.

If you want a fixed number before you commit, send your brief and a sample of your footage through our contact page. We will tell you which tier fits, Standard or Premium, and put the full fee in a written quotation before any work starts. You can also compare every package on our pricing page, see the full list of services, or read our website design cost guide if the video is headed for a new site.

Questions people ask

How much to charge for video editing in India?

Charge for the hours a job takes and the skills it needs, not a flat number. Set an hourly target, estimate hours from raw footage, length, graphics, colour and sound, then add revision rounds. As a benchmark, our published starting prices are ₹2,500 for a basic reel, ₹5,000 for a YouTube video and ₹8,000 for a premium reel. Always state what the price includes, especially how many revision rounds.

How much does a video editor charge per video?

It depends on the type of video. At Axon Creative, starting prices are ₹2,500 for a basic reel, ₹5,000 for a YouTube or promotional video at the Standard level, ₹15,000 for a premium promotional video, ₹20,000 for a product commercial and ₹25,000 for a corporate video. Marketplace sellers on IndiaMART mostly list per hour or per minute instead, so convert any quote to a per-video figure before you compare.

How much does a video editor charge per reel?

Per reel, our published starting prices run from ₹2,500 for a Basic Reel to ₹10,000 for a Motion Graphics Reel. In between, an Advanced Reel starts at ₹4,000 and a Premium Reel, edited in Premiere Pro, at ₹8,000. If you need reels every week, our 10-reel package starts at ₹20,000, which on starting prices costs less per reel than ordering Basic Reels one at a time.

How much to charge for YouTube video editing?

Our YouTube video edits start at ₹5,000 at the Standard level and ₹10,000 at Premium, and runtime and complexity push them up. Standard covers cuts, captions, music sync and basic colour and audio. Premium adds B-roll, multi-cam, grading and sound design. If you edit YouTube videos yourself, price by finished runtime plus the volume of raw footage, because an hour of footage takes far longer to cut than ten minutes.

What should I charge for cinematic video editing in India?

Price cinematic editing above standard social edits, because it adds grading, sound design and story-driven cutting. For reference, our Premium tier, which covers cinematic pacing, multi-cam, speed ramping, grading with LUTs and sound design, starts at ₹8,000 for a reel, ₹10,000 for a YouTube video and ₹25,000 for a corporate video. If you are an editor, quote cinematic work by the hours of grading and sound it needs, not by length alone.
